I love the entryway of this Tudor style house. A regal, almost Gothic style, leaded glass Bay Window set graces the massive hallway stairs. The theme is carried from the entryway, featuring a similar Gothic design in the leaded glass panels, in the heavy wooden door. Handcrafted lead castings are at the center of each leaded panel and add a touch of simple elegance.
We constructed 80 leaded glass panels for every window in the house. The simple rectangle pattern, shown in the den, is the continuing pattern throughout the house. All the windows are Restoration Glass and the leading is a heavy flat lead came, to mimic the style of the Tudor times. The continuation of the leaded Restoration Glass windows, throughout the house, makes the home seem to breathe with life. Restoration Glass is a modern glass, made in Germany, to mimic the glass of the late 1800’s. By using it throughout the house we created an ambiance of gentle movement so the house does look like it is breathing when seen from the street.
In the door of the family room we added Rondells as a counter point to the Old English theme. The door leads to an enclosed walkway that leads to the gym. Every pane, in the heavy metal frames of the walkway, is Restoration Glass and both sides of the walkway are bathed in light. The door to the garden was a special treat to design and build. It is based on an English Tudor theme of circles and lines. It is a spider web featuring a hungry spider ready to pounce on a grasshopper while a dragonfly, above, and a butterfly, below, are tangled and awaiting their fate. The dewdrops shimmering down the lead came are facetted jewels. They shimmer in the light and cast a prism effect on the walls of the entryway.
